More on FOOH

What is FOOH
Fake out of home or FOOH 3D video advertising is where a 3D object or artefacts are tracked to real footage shot from a camera, giving the idea that the animation exists in a real world scene.
It makes the animated objects pop from the scene and adds ‘noticeability’ of your product or service plus it is possible to have fun with the end result such that animations can have an added level of realism.
In this video we made for Arendal speakers of Norway we tracked their speakers to drone footage of a football pitch on the Lofoten islands.
What’s the point of FOOH?
Using a fake object in a real 2D scene is effective at catching attention where traditionally filmed 2D adverts are usual and what consumers see everyday.
Such FOOH videos also exploit trends in augmented reality and help brands make videos that otherwise would be very expensive if a large scale scene was filmed in the real world.
Additionally using mobile phone footage it’s possible for clips to be noticed more in social media advertising and so they can be targeted to the right audience. Trends show much more prevalent use of such FOOH videography.

How it works…
FILM THE FOOTAGE
The footage can be stock footage or filmed by the client and sent to us or we can attend a scene and film the real footage for you. The footage could also just be simple footage from a mobile phone.
BUILD THE 3D MODEL
We then build the 3D asset and work out through storyboarding and consultation how the asset is going to be used in the 2D filmed space.
TRACK & RENDER
We then motion track the 3D asset to the 2D scene and add lights and cameras in the scene so the overall effect is realistic. For instance the cloud reflections in our Arendal project above.
